What is a Myers’ Cocktail?
Myers’ Cocktail may sound more like a drink than a vitamin infusion, but in reality, it’s one of the most highly recommended infusions around. Here’s what you need to know.
The Myers’ Cocktail was created by and named after the late Dr. John Myers, a physician from Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Myers was the first to introduce this vitamin and mineral treatment designed to potentially treat several clinical conditions including fatigue, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, and many more. A Myers’ Cocktail is especially useful for anyone suffering from gut malabsorption, leaky gut, inflammatory bowel disease and other stomach issues, even the stomach flu.
What’s in the Myers’ Cocktail?
As outlined in a study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, the Myers’ Cocktail includes:
- Magnesium
- Calcium gluconate
- B vitamins, including:
- Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12
- Vitamin C
These vitamins and electrolytes are mixed in a solution of either salty water (normal saline) or an electrolyte solution (lactated ringers). At Body RNR we offer both solutions, and believe lactated ringers is a better option for some clients, particularly those that are risk of fluid overload (the older population or those with congestive heart failure).
This formula became commonly known as the Myers’ Cocktail and is often used as a base for other IV formulations. The Myers’ Cocktail is often followed by glutathione, the master antioxidant. Glutathione may aid in disease prevention, immune function and energy levels. Too, acetylcholine can be added to a myers’ cocktail to help loosen secretions, which is great for colds, bronchitis, COPD, asthma and allergies. Acetylcysteine is the precursor to glutathione, so it will boost glutathione production naturally.
Other add-ons to the myers’ include: Biotin for skin, hair and nail health, selenium for detoxification, lysine and zinc for immunity boosts, as well as others. Discuss with your practitioner which add-ons may be right for you.
What are the Benefits of the Myers’ Cocktail?
According to research conducted on the Myers’ Cocktail, it can be used to treat conditions including:
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Fatigue (including chronic fatigue syndrome)
- Acute migraines
- Asthma
- Fibromyalgia
- Acute muscle spasm
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Chronic sinusitis
- Seasonal allergies
Even if you’re not experiencing one of the above conditions, many customers love the Myers’ Cocktail to give their immune system a little boost, prevent and shorten the duration of sickness, increase energy levels and support total body well-being and cognitive function.
Is the Myers’ Cocktail right for me?
A placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind study (the gold standard of research!) treated fibromyalgia patients with the Myers’ Cocktail versus a placebo. The group treated with the Myers’ Cocktail noted significant improvements in their symptoms, specifically improved tender points, pain, depression, and quality of life, following 8 weeks of treatment.
