Wound Care

We approach wound care with a comprehensive approach in looking at the whole person with the wound. One thing we explore, not with testing, but with conversation about intake, is the nutritional status of the individual. We always ask if the client will benefit from more vitamins and minerals? Thus, one prong to a comprehensive program could be IV therapies.

We also look at the area around the wound, not just the wound itself. If this is a leg wound are the legs swollen because of poor circulation? If so, the addition of lymphatic drainage might be helpful, as swollen poorly circulating limbs will not heal well. We use a German technology for lymphatic massage called the BallancerPro. BallancerPro treatments are very comfortable, in fact, many people fall asleep during the session.

Next, we look at the circulation of the wound itself. Is the wound pink or red, or instead pale and grey. If the latter, we might try Shockwave therapy around the wound to encourage microcirculation under and around the wound. Better circulation means that the good guys get to the wound to clean out the bad guys, such as bacteria. Also, well oxygenated tissue will heal more quickly.

The last step, especially with non-healing (or chronic) or infected wounds, is to use ozone bag insufflation to disinfect the wound and again, offer better circulation to the area with super-oxygenated cells. Ozone delivered via bag insufflation is painless, and in fact may decrease the baseline pain of the wound. Too, ozone given in this way is very safe, with no known side effects.

We have found this comprehensive selection of treatments to be very effective. After a thorough exam and consultation, the client is able to choose which treatments they feel are best.

Lastly, we can ensure a more clean environment in our office with the use of air filtration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ozone safe?

Ozone is safe when given by a trained professional. Too, we do not do IV ozone, only insufflation, meaning there is no trauma to veins,

You can read more about ozone on the ozone page or see our blog here.

Why IV therapies?

A poor healing wound might indicate that you are lacking the vitamins and minerals to heal the wound.

For example, B vitamins are essential cofactors in enzyme reactions involved in leukocyte formation and in anabolic processes of wound healing.

Too, Vitamin C helps the body form new collagen.

Vitamin A tones down the inflammatory response and Vitamin E can help prevent scar formation.

Why Shockwave therapy for Wounds?

According to the National Institutes of Health, Shockwave accomplishes the following with wound care:

  1. tissue regeneration
  2. better control of inflammation
  3. cell proliferation and growth
  4. a decreased time to wound closure reducing the risk of necrosis
